First, I should state that the following techniques aren’t going to give you instant results like that of professional teeth whitening at your dentist, which could run you (or your folks), upward of $500 or more. These methods require a little time and patience and your teeth, most likely, won’t be electric white, but you will get more noticeably whiter “Chiclets”, and these methods won’t cost you or your parents an arm and a leg. So, without further adieu (drum roll here), let’s get on with it......
METHOD # 1
Baking Soda & Hydrogen Peroxide
This is an excellent way to whiten your smile. The baking soda provides just the right amount of grit and the peroxide is an awesome antibacterial agent. Simply mix the two together into a paste that’s a little runnier than toothpaste. You don’t want it too gritty because you could brush off enamel and enamel doesn’t grow back
METHOD # 2
Strawberries & Baking Soda
Yup, you read that right, strawberries. This method has its fans and nonbelievers, but it’s worth noting that it’s been said that Catherine Zeta-Jones uses this method and she’s got great teeth, so it might be worth a try. The strawberries contain citric and malic acid, which acts as an astringent to aid in removing surface stains. Simply mash up some strawberries, sprinkle in a little baking soda and spread it over your teeth with your toothbrush. Leave the mixture on for 3-5 mins, rinse and then brush with toothpaste. Don’t forget to floss out any little strawberry seeds J
This is another controversial method, but also one worth trying since most households have bananas in the fruit bowl. Rub the inside if the peel all over your teeth until its pasty. Sit back, chill out for around 10 minutes while the banana works its magic. Next, brush your teeth with a dry toothbrush for 1-3 mins. After that, wet your toothbrush and use it to rinse the banana from your teeth. You can use toothpaste with this step if you prefer.
Coconut Oil Pulling
Coconut oil is all the rage these days and with good reason. Not only is it good for you on the inside, but it’s magical for dry hair and skin. Now it’s being touted as a wonder for your teeth. All that you need to do is put a tsp of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it between your teeth for 5-20 mins. You could also put a dab on your toothbrush and brush. Coconut oil has antimicrobial properties that will keep your gums healthy and happy!
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
This method requires being consistent in usage, but you will see results in about a month. Some peeps say it’s almost as if they’ve had their teeth professionally whitened. Pour a little ACV in a small bowl and dip your toothbrush and brush away. Since ACV is an acid it can remove enamel so take care to brush with toothpaste afterword and rinse really well.
Please let me know if any of these worked for you in the comments. Good Luck!
